Recent developments of rechargeable battery technology allow wider use of electric propulsion in electric vehicles, electric motorcycles, boats etc. Most popular high performance batteries are based on Lithium chemistries. Such batteries require systems to keep them in the specified usage range while being used. The Battery Management System (BMS) is required for batteries that are sensitive to their usage conditions such as current, voltage and temperature. The Emus BMS is the product intended for use with LiIon, LiPO, LiFePO4 and other chemistries prismatic battery cells in which operating voltages range from 2V to 5V. The Emus BMS is a distributed type of digital BMS with a central Control Unit. It does the balancing of the cells by dissipating the excess energy of cells as heat which is often referred to as passive balancing.

BMS Control Unit

A BMS Control Unit is required. The EMUS BMS Control Unit is the the main controller in the EMUS battery management system, that automatically controls the battery operation process utilizing various interfaces for measurement, control, data exchange, configuration and indication.

Supply power can be acheived through the use of a DC-DC converter or auxilary battery.

Supply Voltage: 9-32V DC Input

Current Sensor

One current Sensor is required.

Closed Loop style Dual Range Current Sensor

The EMUS Closed Loop style Dual Range Current Sensor is a highly accurate hall-effect current measurement device, specifically designed to be used in the EMUS battery management system. The rugged, closed-loop design allows the sensor to be mounted directly on a power cable, witch makes the installation easier, improves calibration stability, and eliminates the heat generation issue at high currents.

Bus Bar style Dual Range Current Sensor 

The EMUS Bus Bar Dual Range Current Sensor is a highly accurate hall-effect current measurement device, specifically designed to be used in the EMUS battery management system. Hall-effect based measurement method provides galvanic isolation, allowing the sensor to be placed between any two cells in a series-connected battery pack. Specifications: Current measurement up to ±1000A Acccuracy: 0.5% Galvanic isolation 1kV Calibrated at factory Wire lenght: 150cm Dimensions: 103x35x15 mm Mounting holes: M9 Recommended for use with prismatic cells.


Quick Start Wiring Kit

The BMS Control Unit will come with a Quick Start Kit that includes a 22-POS connector pigtail with USB, 8-POS connector and pins, ribbon cable, and resistors.


Cell Communication Adapters

The EMUS Centralized CAN Cell Group Module (also known as CCGM) is advanced cell communication adapter for interfacing the main controller and a battery pack of up to 16 lithium cells, which enables the Emus BMS to save space by reducing the need of having cell modules, as each CCGM directly monitors each battery cell. Up to 32 Centralized CAN Cell Group Modules can be connected to the system.

Each Centralized CAN Cell Group Module includes:

1x Quick Start Wiring Kit (one each, parts ETS05-45, CH02-45, CNC03-30)



Display

EMUS Compact Display

The EMUS BMS Display Unit is a device dedicated to monitor battery status and other EMUS BMS activity data in real time. It is designed for use indoors and outdoors having glare-free, high contrast and wide viewing angle display and control knob for accessing various information. The device uses RS232 for communication with the EMUS BMS Control Unit. A micro USB interface is built in for firmware updates from a PC.

EMUS Bluetooth Module

The EMUS BMS Smartphone Connectivity Module is a low energy adapter that allows wireless monitoring of various battery parameters in real time on any Android or iOS device using the EMUS EVGUI app, or any PC running Windows operating system, using the USB dongle. The Smartphone Connectivity Module connects to the main controller using an RS232 interface. A compatible EMUS EVGUI  App is available on Google Play and App Store in Apps downloads section.
